Gilad Hekselman: Hearts Wide Open

Gilad Hekselman è un chitarrista israeliano che, seguendo una prassi in voga presso molti suoi conterranei, dopo aver frequentato varie scuole in patria completa gli studi negli Stati Uniti, in questo caso, New York. Dove ha la possibilità di incontrare ed esibirsi con molti protagonisti di quella scena musicale. Proprio da uno di questi incontri nasce l'idea di Hearts Wide Open, la terza uscita da leader di Hekselman, qui accompagnato da una ritmica solida e affiatata e, nella maggior parte dei brani, dal sax prestigioso di Mark Turner.

Ospite che si inserisce con facilità nel clima dell'incisione improntato ad una sicura eleganza compositiva, ad un'interpretazione sobria e asciutta sia delle parti d'insieme che in quelle solistiche, alla capacità di assorbire con naturalezza diversi input stilistici, primi fra tutti quelli provenienti dalla terra natia debitamente miscelati con la contemporaneità metropolitana della Grande Mela.

Hearts Wide Open non contiene nulla di rivoluzionario o sconvolgente, ma ci propone musica sincera ed onesta, dalla chiara impronta melodica che si riverbera e scompone in diverse sfaccettature e diversi gradi di angolosità, sorretta da un pregevole equilibrio tra scrittura e improvvisazione. Hekselman palesa un approccio strumentale memore certamente dei grandi interpreti del passato ma decisamente più vicino all'estetica di chitarristi come Ben Monder, Steve Cardenas e Kurt Rosenwinkel.
