The reeds held to lips
warm-up to an overture
a bird quickens its paces

English daisies play
brass sax to funky strings
trumpets glare at the sun

Tree and bush show off
seek top billing and review
brightness over shadows

Sunflowers blow mellow
slide trombones toward the sky
a slow cover number

Stems and thorns of rose
tune clarinets to the flutes
clouds come drumming

The rain pouring
spoils the arpeggios
unheard from indoors

A late-clearing sky
makes drying impossible
this gig's been a bust

Twilight folds the score
closes instruments in cases
moths sweep out crickets
