Dave Douglas – So Percussion: Greenleaf Portable Series Volume 3: Bad Mango
Il risultato è un disco neanche così monolitico (anche perché breve: poco più di trentacinque minuti), anzi piuttosto vario, solido, talora magari un po' rigido sotto il profilo strutturale ma sempre in grado di catturare e trattenere l'attenzione di chi ascolta.
Le diverse componenti in gioco ora si sommano e ora si separano, generando una felice tensione intestina anche in seno al singolo brano. Douglas non disdegna l'uso della sordina (per esempio nel conclusivo "Time Leveler"), con un singolare effetto di straniamento rispetto al contesto. A volte c'è pienezza e rotondità, altrove i vari ingredienti (le varie voci) si fanno più dicotomici, appuntiti (nella percezione della distanza che li separa), granulosi, striati. Al tutto giova non poco l'irregolarità dei tracciati che quelli di So Percussion sanno disegnare, anche se a volte si ha un po' la sensazione di un minimo di squilibrio tra le forze in campo. Il che non impedisce al disco di offrirci comunque numerosi e notevoli spunti d'interesse.
