Human Feel: Galore
Jim Black, Chris Speed, Andrew D’Angelo, Kurt Rosenwinkel: basterebbero i nomi chiamati in causa per stuzzicare la curiosità di qualsiasi appassionato con un paio di orecchie e qualche dollaro da spendere.
E allora, per chi avrà l’ardire e la fortuna di accostarsi a cotanta fonte, non mancherà certo l’occasione per placare l’arsura di buona musica.
Che siano le atmosfere astratte e free della furiosa “After the Fact” o l’incedere meravigliosamente newyorchese dell’incalzante “Fuss”, che ci si lasci trasportare dai ritmi post-rock della martellante “Improve” (degna di trovare spazio in un fantomatico album firmato da Tortoise e June of 44 con la supervisione di Steve Albini) o ci si smarrisca nella spaventosa selva di “Cat Heaven” (altro che paradiso per gatti...), l’affiatata combriccola non sbaglia un colpo e infila un pezzo memorabile appresso all’altro.
Da schianto la terzina finale, con la friselliana “Serenade”, la cubista “Apch Ro Ha” e la dolcissima “Allegiance” a suggellare un lavoro eclettico, disinvolto e, soprattutto, godibilissimo. Ciliegina sulla torta i diciotto e più minuti di visioni siderali racchiuse in “Fuck the Development of You” (invito a dir poco enigmatico vista l’atmosfera del brano).
Sarà pur vero che una formazione raramente rispecchia l’esatta somma del valore dei propri componenti (di supergruppi deludenti son piene le fosse), ma di tanto in tanto la matematica funziona anche nel jazz.
