Renato Pompilio Trio: Fluttering
Pompilio ha uno stile eclettico, per il quale è difficile individuare un unico ispiratore: lirico, dal fraseggio articolato, ha un suono pieno e sfrutta al massimo la tavolozza timbrica della chitarra. La buona riuscita del lavoro passa però anche attraverso la bravura e l'interplay dei due partner, con il contrabbassista Fabio De March che si affianca frequentemente come seconda voce (ascoltare l'assolo su "Swingatella") ed è abile a non snaturare il clima anche imbracciando il basso elettrico, e con il batterista Nicola Stranieri sensibilissimo nel tocco e prezioso per il conferimento del giusto swing.
Di swing, in questo Fluttering, in verità ce n'è molto: in "Klezando," in "LFJ," in "Swingatella". Forse ce n'è più di quanto non appaia, perché il bilanciamento lirico è altrettanto marcato: in "Nite Trite," in "Arianna Theme," in "Amanhecer" i ritmi non sono principalmente jazzistici, però anche qui il lavoro della batteria contribuisce a ristabilire un equilibrio che è lo stigma dell'album.
Ma, aldilà delle considerazioni stilistiche, Fluttering è un disco che affascina per le belle composizioni - tutte di Pompilio - e per i bei suoni, che funziona e convince, e che quindi si ascolta con piacere ed emozione. Nella musica, alla fine dei conti, è quel che conta.
