The David Leonhardt Trio: Explorations

Proseguono sulla scia di altri trii di successo, come i Bad Plus, queste Explorations del pianista David Leonhardt, uno che ha suonato in qualità di sideman con tanti musicisti affermati del passato e del presente. Insieme a due giovani accompagnatori presenta composizioni proprie ed altri brani, piú celebri nella versione originale datane da celebrità della musica pop: basti citare "Your Song" di Elton John o "Fire and Rain" di James Taylor, insomma un modo di coniugare insieme la tradizione di un Bill Evans con la modernità delle composizioni. Bella "Sunshine of Your Love" di Eric Clapton, eseguita con notevole senso del jazz e dello swing.

Leonhardt, attento alle esigenze del pubblico nei suoi progetti - ce n'è un altro dedicato ai ballerini di tap dance - si destreggia con molta abilità ralizzando un lavoro di sicuro gradimento anche per il pubblico europeo, con la necessaria sapienza armonica e due sideman attenti alle sfumature dell'esecuzione. Un attento ascolto rivela la sua bravura nel rendere i brani di un certo interesse, con arrangiamenti che ne rivelano la profonda cultura musicale. Manca il dramma all'interno delle esecuzioni, o le improvvisazioni che portano lontano, ma questo sicuramente è un problema che questo trio, insieme al pubblico che lo ascolta, neanche si pone.
