Dan Tepfer - Lee Konitz: Duos with Lee
Con un Tepfer impegnato a disegnare il tessuto armonico di base, svetta il volatile sax dell'ottantatreenne musicista di Chicago. La sua condotta è sempre imprevedibile, frastagliata, dall'alto di un lessico armonicamente e ritmicamente colmo di trappole per chi gli sta accanto. E così quando l'ascoltatore ha appena incominciato a percepire la melodia, ecco che questa gli sfugge repentinamente per raggiungere altri lidi.
Entrano in gioco i proverbiali cambi di tonalità che hanno reso celebre Konitz, con cui il giovane compagno di viaggio riesce a ben intrecciarsi e completarsi in maniera un po' defilata ma intelligente.
I brani estemporaneamente incisi hanno quindi guadagnato in bellezza grazie ad una esplorazione condotta in piena libertà, sull'onda delle felici scorribande solistiche konitziane. Ne discende una stimolante invenzione musicale a due voci, con la capacità di padroneggiare le forme più consuete ed evitare le trappole della ripetitività.
