Billy Cobham: Drum 'n' Voice 2

Billy Cobham, viaggio in Italia parte seconda. Nella sua instancabile attività discografica, uno dei più blasonati batteristi viventi sceglie ancora la penisola per la produzione di un CD. Dopo il primo fortunato capitolo Drum ‘n’ Voice - All That Groove, l’artista ci riprova con un lavoro completamente registrato e prodotto in Italia.

Allora, cosa fare di meglio che convocare una manciata di session man d’alto lignaggio e qualche amico d’un tempo? Detto fatto e il secondo capitolo del batterista ambidestro e “muscoloso” è bello e pronto.

Brian Auger all’hammond delizia (“Waveform”); “Real Funk” funkeggia a piè sospinto (Buddy Miles e Frank Gambale: presenti); “Running” parte piano per poi dispiegarsi come la brezza di primo mattino (complice l’aiuto patinato della Nicolosi family); “Final Destination” sembra uscito da un film blaxploitation; “Ozone parte I e II” esibiscono il drumming inconfondibile del sessantaduenne batterista (c’è Airto Moreira ad aiutarlo, ma anche Jeff Berlin e una vecchia conoscenza: Jan Hammer); “Let me breathe” è già in heavy rotation sulle radio.

Che dire: estetica fusion molto accomodante e radiofonica; comprimari di livello. Vedere alla voce: già sentito, ma con gusto.
