Douye': Daddy Said So
ByAmong the many highlights is "Nature Boy." On this track, she is joined by legendary bassist, Ron Carter. It is cleverly performed as a vocal/bass duet. "Summertime" is a percussion led big band treat in which Douye' exudes her swing sensibilities. In front of the Kenny Barron Trio, she glides effortlessly through "Mood Indigo" and "I Loves You Porgy." She is joined by pianist John Beasley on a sultry "Round Midnight" and a heartfelt "In A Sentimental Mood." A tender and graceful "Autumn Leaves" is intimately backed by saxophonist Kim Richmond and his band.
In all, there are fourteen beautiful renditions of timeless classics. Douye's first jazz record is substantial. Her phrasing, voice, and passion are remarkably moving and expressive. She embodies the full jazz songstress catalog.
