Wolfert Brederode Quartet: Currents
Il fraseggio di Puntin, impegnato al clarinetto e al clarone, sempre condotto su tempi lenti, meditativo e articolato, ricorda a più riprese quello del grande musicista statunitense di origini siciliane. E se questa affinità si stempera un po’ nei brani in cui i temi sono più lineari (“Common Fields”) o dove il piano di Brederode segna più incisivamente il terreno (“Desiderata”, con un insistito pedale), viceversa essa balza agli occhi là dove vi sia più libertà e lo stesso pianista ricalchi maggiormente la strada di Bley (“Soil”, “Ebb”).
Qui il lavoro tocca le sue vette, lasciando l’ascoltatore sospeso nella ricerca del suono e della relazione, senza riferimenti predefiniti, in vera attesa del procedere della musica. La quale poi avanza con inattesa semplicità, sostenuta anche dall’attento lavoro del batterista Samuel Rohrer, importante coprotagonista di un gruppo interessante e che ha qualcosa di nuovo da dire nel panorama del jazz nordeuropeo.
