Liberatore and DeVore Duo: Concepts

Il chitarrista italiano Matteo Liberatore ha incontrato il contrabbassista dell'Illinois Jerry DeVore nel 2008 alla New York University. I due musicisti hanno presto scoperto di avere molte idee in comune sulla musica e sulla necessità di interpretare, in maniera molto libera, le intersezioni di vecchi generi che ormai servono solo come etichette scolorite per una toponomastica musicale pre-GPS.

In questo loro bel lavoro in duo, Matteo e Jerry hanno preso come fonte di ispirazione, più che il recente Beyond the Missouri Sky di Charlie Haden e Pat Metheny, l'ormai dimenticato album in duo di Jim , edito da Artist House nel 1978. Un album dolcissimo e straordinario che meriterebbe una ristampa ben argomentata e ben distribuita.

In questo Concepts le quattro composizioni firmate da Matteo Liberatore si intrecciano elegantemente con tre standard battutissimi che però vengono resi, in questa occasione, come escursioni segrete nella luce in filigrana del tramonto, in modo certamente originale e suggestivo.

La musica di questo album è delicata e fragile, piena di piccoli sussulti e di malinconiche pennellate di colori acquosi e sussurrati. Lasciamola cantare.
