by Jerome Wilson
Vitor Pereira is a guitarist from Portugal who is currently part of the London jazz scene. The track titles on the album all come from Jung's terminology but no knowledge of his theories is required to enjoy the subtle energy of this rock- flavored jazz set. In this group, Pereira's guitar often acts as a nimble middle layer between the ...

Vitor Pereira reveals in the sleeve notes that the inspiration for this collection was the fear that our world had reached a tipping point where an increasingly globalised economic system powered by unscrupulous profit orientated multinational corporations is on the verge of collapse." The quintet has undergone a transformation since that debut album--the instrumentation remains unchanged but Pereira and altoist Chris Williams (from ...

Music produced by London's F-IRE Collective is almost guaranteed to be intriguing and innovative. Doors, the debut from Portuguese guitarist Vitor Pereira's Quintet, is a worthy addition to the Collective's output. The quintet contains some of the UK's finest young players, including alto saxophonist Chris Williams, from Led Bib, and drummer Eddie Hick, from Gilad Atzmon's Orient House Ensemble. Pereira--who composed all of the tunes--favors a pure, warm guitar tone but isn't averse to some occasional heavier chordal playing.
