Betty Bryant: Nothin' Better To Do...

Read "Nothin' Better To Do..." reviewed by Pierre Giroux

by Pierre Giroux

Betty Bryant's nothin' better to do.. radiates the natural confidence of a seasoned club date, where the music speaks for itself. A pianist, singer, and composer whose artistry has been shaped by decades of experience rather than trends (at the impressive age of 96), Bryant brings a storyteller's instinct and a deep respect for melody to this session. Producer Robert Kyle, himself a seasoned saxophonist and flautist, places her in a setting that is both intimate and expansive, featuring a ...

Chad Edwards: Wyoming Roads

Read "Wyoming Roads" reviewed by Nicholas F. Mondello

by Nicholas F. Mondello

In his performing career, pianist Chad Edwards has probably heard more wisecracks and quips about his actually being a retired rocket scientist than there are stars in the Cosmos. Robert Kyle: Blue Winds

Read "Blue Winds" reviewed by Dave Nathan

by Dave Nathan

Sax payer Robert Kyle's third album continues in the mode of his second in that all the compositions on the set are his own. They are the standard lot, a couple of blues, some ballads and a swinger or two. All are listenable, but not all are especially memorable. Two exceptions are the lovely ballads “Three Angels" and “Sweet Life" where Kyle's similarity to the playing of tenor man Ernie Watts is especially apparent. Another fine track is the swinging ...
