Madeleine Peyroux: Let's Walk

Read "Let's Walk" reviewed by Chris May

Madeleine Peyroux's career took off in 2004 with her second album, Careless Love (Rounder), covering songs by such 20th century greats as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams. It was performed with a jazz sensibility, infusions of blues and touches of chanson, and mostly with jazz arrangements. In this respect, it continued the direction set by Peyroux's debut, Dreamland (Atlantic, 1996). Since those early albums, Peyroux's trajectory has evolved. The jazz sensibility, and love of chanson ...

The storm threat did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the sold-out crowd who braved the elements to see this unique singer/songwriter do her thing. Backed by a crack band, featuring Guitar God Jon Herrington (the ...

Madeleine Peyroux: Secular Hymns

Read "Secular Hymns" reviewed by Alberto Bazzurro

Madeleine Peyroux: Secular Hymns

Read "Secular Hymns" reviewed by John Eyles

Remarkably, Madeleine Peyroux's Secular Hymns comes twenty years after her debut release, Dreamland (Atlantic, 1996), which catapulted her into the public eye and garnered heaps of praise. Since then her voice has often been compared to mid-career Billie Holiday, and that comparison remains valid on Secular Hymns. Some singers would find that a millstone around their neck, but Peyroux continues to wear it well.
