violaAlbum Description
Triptyque is the first album as a leader by Gabriel Genest, saxophonist, mult- instrumentalist, composer and arranger from Lac-St-Jean and established in Montreal since 2013. As its name suggests, Triptyque draws its inspiration from a reflection on the links between music and the visual arts. The pieces on the album explore themes of fractals, triptych, abstration, space, fluidity and perspectve, thus seeking to translate these ideas from the visual arts into music. The ensemble presents contemporary jazz influenced by modern jazz and classical music. The album's repertoire is the result of an exploration of long musical forms and elaborate quintet arrangements aimed at showcasing the qualities of the improvisers who make up the group. In addition, three pieces with string quartet (Quatuor Saguenay) extended the palete of colors and arrangements on the album.
