Personnel
Album Description
The Faroese jazz group Alda Magna is here with their third outing. All members live in the Faroe Islands. Danish Kim Kristensen on piano, synth and flute is together with Faroese Rógvi á Rógvu on drums and percussion, Arnold Ludvig on bass and Leivur Thomsen on guitar. The North Atlantic group takes its point of departure from the fact that they live on an archipelago where wind and weather leave deep traces. Not just in nature but also in soul and heart.
The record is an ambitious plan, where the ceiling is high. The ceiling is so high that even if you live on an island where wind, storm, haze and fog are part of the mental backyard, you can easily take a musical detour to Africa, as they do on the first part of the record's title work Traces of time. It happens after the quartet has already been around fusion jazz. This is one of the reasons why Alda Magna's record succeeds so well.
On the second part of the record, Traces of time part 4-7, the band works with collectively produced surface structures. Sound, tone, rhythm and melody weave in and out between each other. It has become astonishingly beautiful and fabulously quirky music that lives on the luxuries of the North Atlantic while the mind searches the corners of the earth, where Alda Magna finds musical sustenance. Recommended for jazz listeners who want to hear fusion, jazz rock and jazz with a Nordic sound.
