"Labor of Love" according to Ed Partyka, is the collaboration and harmony between the exceptionally talented musicians of his Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra. From all over Germany, Austria, Holland and Israel (Efrat Alony), they answered the composer and arranger’s call to record pieces like "Songs Of Love Lost" at the rbb Studios, Berlin. They came to experience the "kick", that special feeling of excitement one feels when working with Ed, blazing new trails and breaking creative boundaries. Ed Partyka says "we must look forward and around but not backwards. I'm trying to find places where a big band has never been before". His music challenges musicians and listeners and rewards both in equal measure - it is everything that great music should be. Even though this sounds like a serious statement, Ed's compositions and interpretations are never lacking in subtle irony and exuberant playing. Ed met the Israeli singer, composer and arranger Efrat Alony a few years ago. The two artists studied together under Bob Brookmeyer and participated in the "New Art Ensemble". Bob has been an important impulse to them as a musician and composer, and been a supportive and fruitful source of inspiration in their search and discovery of their own individuality. In addition to their technical perfection, Efrat Alony and Ed Partyka share an absolute commitment to both the adventure and the romanticism of music.
