Inspired by legends like Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, and Snarky Puppy, this track is a psychedelic exploration of Jack’s diverse influences in jazz, funk, and rock. “Shades of Purple reflects key moments in my musical journey. Purple is my favourite colour and was also my dad’s, who shaped my early love of music,” Jack shares. “One of the first riffs I learnt was Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple, followed by hours of jamming Hendrix’s Purple Haze during lessons. Later, my brother introduced me to funk greats like James Brown, and university opened my eyes to jazz-fusion icons like Chick Corea and Snarky Puppy. This track combines all those influences and represents who I am as an artist today.” With punchy grooves, searing guitar riffs, and lush synth layers, Shades of Purple draws from funk’s rich history while delivering a fresh, jazz-infused sound. The recording features Jack’s trusted bandmates—Mat Vickers (bass), Mark Hooper (drums), and Jack Beacall (keys)—musicians who’ve performed live with Jack, including as an opener for Snarky Puppy’s Mark Lettieri. From initial loop pedal jams and phone recordings to mastering the final cut, Jack handled every aspect of production himself. He has supported renowned artists like Mark Lettieri and conducted masterclasses at institutions such as LIPA and Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory. Fusing jazz, funk, Latin, and rock influences, Jack continues to push boundaries with his band while building on the success of his debut release, Songs For You.
