Album Description
The Blues Highway, old US Route 61, what´s left of it, runs from Minnesota down through Mississippi to New Orleans, then out to Baton Rouge. Rt 61 was once littered with blues clubs, juke joints. It was the best of American culture hidden in plain sight. You can still find the odd one, like Teddy´s Juke Joint, near the end of the Rt 61 at Zachary Louisiana. Up until a few years ago, you´d hear some of Slim Harpo´s original cats laying down some badass blues there. There’s a little town called St. Amant, just off Rt 61, on LA 431. Just around the corner from Toureau´s Grocery, surrounded by bayous and cypress trees, is Friendly Fish studio. Brian Brignac, well known Louisiana drummer (Sonny Landreth, Bobby Charles, Wayne Toups etc) produces and engineers. If you´re looking for studio musicians, a phone call brings a Wrecking Crew of pros who live in the area. Guys who get up every day and make their living at music. Guys who lay down an original song in a couple takes and it sounds just right, with the proper amount of grease. This is Novelli´s second venture out LA 431, with a dozen original songs and a stripped down rhythm section. Novelli delivers his usual blend of New Orleans funk, Louisiana/Texas blues, nods to cajun/zydeco and forays into jazz. Crack open a cold one, sit back, and turn it up!
