Album Description
Igbó Alákorin (The Singer’s Grove) III is the most recent installment of a series that researches pre 1959 Cuban music. I began this project in 2017, and this new volume continues that journey. This time, some tracks were recorded directly to wax cylinders, inspired by Cuba’s early recordings of 1906. The program features music never recorded before and includes a series of rare danzones by Antonio María Romeu from the 1910s. This collection brings together works by Romeu, Sindo Garay, Mariano Mercerón, and Miguel Matamoros - alongside my originals. I recorded them on acoustic piano (some recorded straight to wax cylinders that are actually completely playable on a phonograph). I also created electronic miniatures on the UDO Super 6 synthesizer digitally, to complement the piano tracks. The full wax cylinder recordings set will be coming out next year on musikundkultur.com This album has two unique sequences: Director’s Cut: the complete program, interweaving piano and UDO Super 6 synthesizer. Theatrical Cut: a distilled solo piano recital including only the archival Cuban repertoire (included in both editions). releases October 3, 2025
