Album Description

Through a hidden door, you descend the stairs down to a smoky basement. The smell of aged wine and sweet cocktails entice the senses as you approach. Candlelight illuminates a bar scene and on stage a mysterious brunette bares her soul as she sings "How did I get back here again...." "How did I get back here again" is a song that echoes back to an early style of jazz that was embodied by singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan. It combines that classic jazz feel with modern production and a nod to contemporary jazz artists such as Melody Gardot, Zaz and Madeleine Peyroux. This rejuvenation of a classic jazz ballad is delivered to you by singer-songwriter Kate Thomas. Thomas known for her powerful and expressive vocals is quickly establishing herself at the well-known jazz and roots venues in and around London. Already performing headline shows at The Bulls Head Jazz Club, Green Note, Spice of Life, Toulouse Lautrec and The Nightjar to name but few. Thomas was also selected to headline BBC Radio’s, Jumoke Fashola’s “Jazz Verse Jukebox” at her annual “Ones to Watch” concert at Hoxton Hall. “Electric!” Art House Music “Like Edith Piaf and Judy Garland all wrapped up in one!” Helen Lederer “Where the energy of rock blends with the intimacy of folk!” A&R Factory “Sultry Dame” All About Jazz “Delightful!” BTL Jazz The song is about a bad relationship, which you just can't leave. Partially inspired by some of the works and lives of those classic artists. It was also inspired by past relationships in the songwriters lives. The song was originally conceived by songwriter and producer P B Anderson whilst watching a cabaret singer perform some jazz standards one evening. Transfixed by the deep and raw themes placed on top of a beautifully delicate jazz ballad foundation, the title with it's melody line came almost instantly. As it wasn't the style he is known for though, the song was placed in an archive and was largely forgotten about. That was until years later when he met Kate Thomas a singer who would breathe new life into it. This compelling collaboration written and produced by P B Anderson, performed and arranged by Kate Thomas at Chime Tone Studios also features some well established jazz musicians with Pat Felitti on Piano, Peter Gavin on Double Bass, Vintage Dusty on Drums and finally to firmly pull this raw jazz ballad together it was mastered at the Grammy Award winning Mercury Studios.
