Album Description
O Som Do Jazz features Rio de Janeiro singer Andrea Moraes Manson and a crew of experienced musicians from Brazil, Colombia, Cuba and the U.S. performing Brazilian music. This working band is based in St. Petersburg, Florida and is active in festival and special event performances throughout the state. The group plays Brazilian classics, as well as original music and has backed Brazilian artists including Antonio Adolfo, Jovino Santos Neto, Haroldo Mauro and Diego Figueiredo.
"Go!" is the third release by O Som Do Jazz and features all original compositions by David and Andrea Moraes Manson, all influenced by diverse Brazilian musical styles including samba-jazz, Bossa Nova, samba-funk, Baião and MPB.
Singer Andrea Moraes Manson grew up in Rio de Janeiro singing Bossa nova, samba and MPB for fun, while attaining a degree in architecture. Flutist Jose Valentino Ruiz is a two-time Latin GRAMMY nominee and was recently appointed as music professor at the University of Florida. Guitarist Alfredo Rivero currently tours internationally with the Gypsy Kings. Drummer Mark Feinman and bassist Alejandro Arenas are members of the powerhouse trio La Lucha. Pianist Jeremy Douglass is the director/arranger of the Florida Bjorkestra. Saxophonist Austin Vickrey’s credentials include performances with funk legend, Bootsy Collins. David Manson (trombone & compositions) is a developer of the Music Industry/Recording Arts program at St. Petersburg College and a composer with credits that include the Fluid Motion project with saxophonist Sam Rivers.
