Album Description

"Aberto" is the fourth album release by O Som Do Jazz, a Brazilian group based in Florida with Brazilian, Colombian, Puerto Rican and U.S. musicians. Samba, Bossa Nova & Baião styles are featured with 7 original compositions by David Manson and one from Tom Jobim. Andrea Moraes Manson (a Carioca) wrote the lyrics for two songs and sings a total of three with a full voice approach. Her favorite singers include Elis Regina, Elza Soares and Clara Nunes. Other influences for the group include J.T. Meirelles, Zimbo and Tamba Trios, Jovino Santos Neto, Raul de Souza and other Brazilian artists who integrate jazz with Brazilian genres. Alejandro Arenas (bass) and Mark Feinman (drums) have been the rhythm section for over a dozen years. They have a trio called La Lucha that is very popular in Florida. Bruno Miranda (piano) is Brazilian and a Berklee graduate. Rafael Pereira is also Brazilian. He's a drummer and percussionist who lives in Atlanta and has performed and toured with Janelle Monáe and others. The guitarist for this recording was Tabajara Belo from Minas Gerais in Brazil. He was completing his doctorate at the University of Florida and was able to join O Som Do Jazz for several concerts and this recording. The flute and saxophone work is from José Valentino Ruiz, a talented young artist who heads the music business program at the University of Florida. O Som Do Jazz recorded at the MIRA studio at St. Petersburg College.
