Album Description

The music on the album varies in intensity, there are totally improvised pieces and compositions where we try to amalgamate the aesthetics with the improvisations so that the album has a unifying concept. The composed pieces are based on dodecaphonic series, but contain a lot of improvisation. And at the same time, in the totally improvised pieces we tried to generate a specific material or we could say a pattern of development. The disc starts with "Se rie uno", a piece in which the winds begin with voicings in white, without a determined pulse, with the dodecaphonic series distributed among them generating different intervals, and with the double bass and the drums sustaining them; after which the alto saxophone and the cornet start improvising while the tenor saxophone and the double bass work as support and the drums play without a determined rhythm; then it goes back to the first event with the winds playing voicings, but with a different dodecaphonic series, then it ends in a collective impro with another set of series to finally finish with the first event of the voicings. Unlike "Se rie uno", which has a more random character, in the piece "Macatite Maselarie" the dodecaphonic series was worked by instruments creating determined lines for the case of the baritone sax, which together with the double bass, are the support during the whole piece; the alto sax and the cornet behave as a section generating voicings and improvising and the drums interact with the baritone sax line. In the case of "Cromapi visión" free improvisation, the idea was that the pattern was a double bass solo, where the other instruments interact with it; there is a synthesizer played by Matías, which functions at times as a support for the improvisation. In "sucesión de 12 sonidos" a clear reference to the "series" is a theme in 5/4, perhaps the one that formally could be more traditional, where the motive of the theme are four melodic lines that interact with each other. The theme "Imprudente impertinente imperfecto" as well as "Cromapi visión" which is generated from a double bass solo, is born from a drum solo with the instruments entering one by one to interact with the drums, until they are all playing together, first the alto sax comes in, followed by the cornet, then the double bass and finally the tenor sax. In the case of "0, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34", a name that refers to the Fibonacci series, the series were worked in such a way as to generate for each instrument a number of three notes that, played randomly to the signal, would generate with the upper and lower instrument intervals from minor third to minor second, also passing through major second. In this way, the series changes and per instrument the patterns change, leaving some free to improvise with a specific dodecaphonic series and generating contrast with the long notes. In the background sounds from the beginning to the end the synthesizer with a sound which varies its parameters and helps the effect of the voicings as another sustained note. The last track "Improvement" is an improvisation where Matías is weaving the background with the synthesizer, the way of it is quiet, but with some intensity at the beginning, but as the saxophones are entering it acquires more energy, generating a more fluid improvisation between alto and tenor sax, while the trumpet is making long notes and the double bass sews a speech with the drums.
