Album Description
Michael Dalgas’ album release “Death of a Tree” contains 10 evocative compositions which invite the listener into a calm, musical universe of melody carried thoughtful jazz. It is music building a bridge between the immediately accessible through the feeling, the groove or the melody, and sounds pushing to the limits of the listener. The melancholy og reflective atmosphere is present throughout in the music, and it is not without reason as Michael Dalgas wrote this music in the years after two serious accidents. Michael Dalgas Trio consists of Michael Dalgas on drums, Jasper Jagd on double bass and Lars Fiil on piano & Würlitzer, and exactly the sound of the Würlitzer helps to enhance the thoughtful and reflective feeling in the music. “In this project it has been important to me to find the right musicians and the right format where musical openness and freedom is a matter of course without loosing the sense of a song. Pianist Lars Fiil and bass player Jasper Jagd understood the music immediately, and it was clear that this album was to be a trio album with theese two musicians”. The musical production of “Death of a Tree” has been done by changing as little as possible in the mixing and mastering process. The music was recorded with only a “few takes” on each track and minimal editing. The goal has been to let the music stand as authentic and honest as possible and to show that beauty also lies in the unperfect. “Music releases today are often very edited and polished so everything is perfect when it is released. It is comparable with our Instagram and Facebook culture where no picture or situation is shared that is not perfect. It is my belief that we need to work against this trend - also wihtin music production".
