Album Description

"Conceptions" is a contemporary jazz quartet album of all original compositions from pianist Geoffrey Dean, the great Harish Raghavan on bass, Eric Binder on drums, and Justin Copeland on Trumpet. This album serves as a compliment to the quartet's first album "Foundations". While "Foundations" paid tribute to the group's influences, "Conceptions" is a collection of 5 originals from Dean, 3 from Copeland and 2 from Binder which showcase a broad palette of musical styles within the jazz genre. This includes more contemporary harmonies, rhythms, and interplay on swing, straight-eighth, odd meter compositions and more. Dean, Binder, and Copeland all met while completing their Doctorates in Jazz Studies at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Raghavan brings his experience as a prestigious bassist and phenomenal player in thanks to his previous connections with Binder to finish off the 4 piece quartet for their second album as a group.
