Album Description

"Bright Morning" is a jazz release featuring 9 original compositions by saxophonist Johnny Padilla. Johnny is accompanied by Steve Einerson on piano, John Price on bass and Brian Ritter on drums. The quartet adds guitarist Zvonimir Tot on several tracks. "Bright Morning", the title track, is an uptempo run through some challenging harmonic progressions. "Jackals and Hounds" is a modal composition exploring swing and african rhythms. "Happy Hour in Five" is a soulful romp in 5/4 time. "Missed the Train" is a lively, swinging bebop tune. "Stay" is a melancholic ballad featuring soprano saxophone with lovely solos on acoustic guitar and piano supported by this sensitive rhythm section. "Revenge" is a modal tune with a fiery Afro-Cuban feel. "Below Freezing" is an intense minor blues with all hands stretching out on the solos. "So Sweet" is a lovely jazz waltz that features the soprano saxophone and piano with this smooth swinging rhythm section. "You Did What?!" is a hard driving closer to this album.
