Gaspare De Vito: 5 Songs e 1 Story

Non è da tutti esordire con un progetto in solo. Il sassofonista e flautista Gaspare De Vito ha coraggio e onestà espressiva e affida a cinque canzoni e una storia il compito di raccontarlo: musicista dall'apprendistato variegato - si va dalla collaborazione con Giancarlo Schiaffini a esperienze all'estero con musicisti africani - De Vito sembra avere metabolizzato i differenti linguaggi in un'espressione strumentale inquieta e indagatrice.

È sommesso, brulicante l'incedere dell'iniziale "Looking for the Climax", brano nel quale emerge un lessico in parte debitore della lezione di Evan Parker, ma nello svilupparsi delle altre quattro canzoni, una delle quali apertamente dedicata a Anthony Braxton, il lessico si apre a una molteplicità di soluzioni timbriche e di strategie espressive. Il respiro è parte integrante del suono, così come le possibilità percussive delle parti dello strumento.

Non manca un profondo senso lirico, a voltre struggente come in "City Flag", brano che apre poi alla conclusiva "The Sea and the Man", suggestiva esplorazione ambientale in cui il sassofono dialoga con gli elementi della natura, il mare in particolare, portatore di uno swing lento e inesorabile. Lasciarsi affabulare vale la pena!
