Equilibrium: Walking Voices

Sissel Vera Pettersen, norvegese, pensa che la musica degli Equilibrium debba essere, né più né meno, rappresentata da un prisma. Magari bucato da un raggio bianco che si trasforma in mille colori e in cui l'ascoltatore potrà scegliere di immergersi. Forse, migliore definizione della musica del trio non si poteva dare.

La cantante-sassofonista ha gironzolato con artisti del calibro di Theo Bleckmann, un mago della vocalità, o di Toumani Diabaté. Joachim Badenhorst, clarinettista belga, si è fatto intravedere con i Goodspeed You Black Emperor, Zorn, Braxton e compagnia bella. Il chitarrista danese Mikkel Ploug non ha curriculum e partecipazioni da esibire, ma tante idee da mettere in pratica: è lui l'anima della formazione.

La musica della band è un work in progress. Una tavolozza di possibilità sulla quale immaginare percorsi musicali mai scontati e prevedibili. "Addicted to Changes" è un manifesto programmatico. Senza essere troppo incomprensibile, senza stravolgere il senso, traccia la strada agli sforzi di immaginazione. Si ha bisogno di recidere il cordone ombelicale col passato. Si ha necessità di inventarsi ancora una volta.

Cambiando il cambiabile, gli Equilibrium stanno facendo nell'avanguardia jazz quello che i Radiohead stanno testardamente provando nella musica rock: mettere tutto in discussione, ma senza trascurare chi poi dà il vero "humus" all'ingegno: il pubblico degli ascoltatori più esigenti, forse un po' troppo spaesati e confusi da tanta musica prodotta che sembra ripetere se stessa come i replicanti di Blade Runner.

Questo lavoro può essere tante cose e nessuna. Può essere musica da camera o jazz inventivo (in "Silverise" l'esperienza della spiritualità vocale di Bleckmann è tutta intatta). Folk music e elettronica ("Eclasticity," "Chagan"). C'è soprattutto il tentativo di smarcarsi da tutto e tutti con suggestivi scenari sui quali vale la pena imbarcarsi come un'avventura su di un altro pianeta.
