Giancarlo Perna: Transumanze

La fusion - rispetto ad altri stili jazz - non ha trovato molti epigoni in Italia. Ben venga allora questa fatica di Giancarlo Perna, che fra i dodici titoli da lui firmati inserisce un paio di composizioni che potrebbero essere state scritte da Frank Gambale ("Jamm Bell") o Pat Metheny ("Joe"), influenze cui è difficile sottrarsi. E tuttavia si trovano anche richiami alla tradizione italiana ("Fratelli Capone") o ad Astora Piazzolla, per una volta in preda a sapori elettrici ("Inversione di ruolo"). A completare il gioco di fusione tra varie fonti d'ispirazione contribuisce anche "Bronco," in cui troviamo un violino che cerca di trasportare Django verso la Mahavishnu Orchestra

Perna è concentrato sulla gestione del gruppo e sulla realizzazione delle sue idee piuttosto che sulla ricerca autoreferenziale dell'assolo perfetto. Questo rende Transumanze un disco per il quale grande attenzione è stata data agli arrangiamenti e alle composizioni, e dimostra perizia nel trovare una sintesi tra idee originali e la fusion dei maestri.
