This & That, Part 5: This & That, Part 5
We've published jazz fiction over the years, but we've never published anything remotely like Alan Bryson's Django's Cosmic Echo, a wild, alternate-universe, time-travel thrill ride where the legendary guitarist finds himself inexplicably transported 40 years into the future—straight into the heart of Amsterdam. No spoilers here, but it will run for 18 days, spanning four weeks starting today!

AI

All About Jazz's chatbot (accessible from the lower right corner of every AAJ page) can field general questions about jazz but its primary purpose is to answer questions about the website: from simple queries like how to become a member to something more complex like how to promote a new album release. It's my assistant and saves me time, so please try it before contacting me.

JFA

All About Jazz will announce this year's Jazz Forward Award recipients during Jazz-Con 2025 (held on September 15-16). As I mentioned in yesterday's announcement, the Jazz Forward Award program is All About Jazz's salute to individuals and organizations who spark jazz discovery and enrich jazz culture in new or profound ways. So many pour their hearts into this art form without the recognition they deserve and Jazz Forward represents our way of amplifying their extraordinary contributions.

We created a Jazz Near You website for the city of Palermo for our friends at the Sicilia Jazz Festival. Their festival is fast approaching and runs from June 22nd to July 6th. If you present jazz, run a venue or perform in and around Palermo, be sure to list your events.

In other news...

We queried AI with "Describe Jazz Near You" and it replied with...

Jazz Near You (jazznearyou.com) is a website and service that helps jazz fans discover live jazz performances in their local area or in cities they plan to visit.

Key Features
  • Concert Listings—Up-to-date schedules of jazz gigs, festivals, and club performances.
  • Venue Directory—Find jazz clubs, concert halls, and bars hosting live jazz.
  • Artist Tracking—Follow specific musicians to get alerts when they perform near you.
  • Regional Focus—Covers major jazz scenes (NYC, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc.) and smaller markets.

It's a useful tool if you want to support live jazz and avoid missing great performances.

We couldn't have explained it better ourselves.
