The GAB Trio: The GAB Album
The GAB Trio, a London-based group featuring guitarists Clement Regert and Gianluca Corona alongside percussionist Steve Taylor, presents their debut outing, The GAB Album. This collection displays their exploration of flamenco-infused melodies, reworked pop tunes and moments of improvisation. While not reaching groundbreaking heights, the musicality offers a glimpse of the trio's potential and a pleasant, albeit familiar, listening experience.

The production's core strength lies in its accessibility. Regert's original compositions blend flamenco and Brazilian influences seamlessly, creating an upbeat and lively atmosphere. Tracks like "L'aube" and "Bahia Breeze" convey this fusion beautifully, offering a sunny and approachable soundscape.

Recorded in a single day at the Cowshed studio, this marks an intriguing debut for the band. The unique lineup of two nylon-strung guitars and Cajon/percussion delivers a blend of original compositions amid reimagined covers from the repertoires of Eurythmics, Guns 'n' Roses, Radiohead and Nirvana, each given a distinct GAB Trio twist via a worldly combination of genres, coupled with the band's continually flowing gait. Guest musicians' contributions, including Rosie Frater-Taylor on guitar and vocals, add depth to the group's sound.

Regert and Corona's guitar work is impressive, with intricate fingerpicking and dynamic solos that bridge a touch of elegance with a forceful approach. Moreover, Taylor's drumming and percussion provide a solid foundation and add tasteful accents throughout.

The GAB Album serves as a promising debut for the trio. It highlights the artists' technical abilities, playful creativity and ability to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. While this outing may not break new ground, it lays a solid foundation for growth. With more daring experimentation and a stronger focus on developing a distinct sonic identity, the trio has the potential to carve its niche in the world of contemporary guitar-driven music.
