Various Artists: Telarc Jazz: Celebrating 25 Years
Represented on this jazz compilation are some of the most prominent names in jazz including Jim Hall, Monty Alexander, Dave Brubeck, Slide Hampton, Stephane Grappelli and Ray Brown. On the vocal side, there are representative cuts from albums made by Joe Williams, Jeanie Bryson, Bobby Short, Mel Torme and Tierney Sutton for the label. Never quite able to completely set aside its classical robe, there is even an excerpt from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" given a jazz arrangement by the Jacques Loussier Trio.
Unlike many anthologies of this type, Telarc doesn't skimp on the number of selections nor the amount of music. There are 25 tracks running more than 2 hours, literally a plethora of jazz music riches. This is one of the better compilations to hit the streets in quite a while and is recommended.
