Sinne Eeg

Born in Lemvig, Denmark, jazz singer Sinne Eeg graduated from the Music Conservatory of West Jutland in 2003, and subsequently studied with American jazz singers Janet Lawson and Jay Clayton in New York City. “I learned a lot from studying music intensively at the music conservatory,” she explained. “But I think a lot of my musicality comes from my childhood and teenage years where I was exposed to so much music and great music teachers. Jazz was a big part of my upbringing. I played in several local big bands (alto saxophone) when I was a teenager, and I learned a lot about the structures and phrasing of the music.” During her musical upbringing, Eeg gravitated toward singers with lower, richer voices, like Julie London, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Cassandra Wilson and Dianne Reeves

Umka

Born:

The True Story Of My Life Written By Myself In Bad English I was born as Anna Gerasimova in Moscow, 19 April 1961, a week after Gagarin's flight; the heroes of my childhood were Gagarin, Fidel Castro, The Three Musketeers and Winnie the Pooh. I loved books and dreamed to become a great writer. I loved singing, too, and attended a children's choir. Playing piano was not my strongest point; several years of training caused a severe allergy for classical music. At the age of 13 I got my first guitar, the cheapest acoustic monster made in USSR, and taught myself some chords. To be honest, my skill hasn't improved a lot since then

Mike Winkle

“Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 60’s, I was surrounded by an incredible music scene that offered such a diversity of musical genres that on any given week end, you could see artists such as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Tower Of Power, and Miles Davis, to name a few. The Fillmore and Winterland were in their full glory, and I was fortunate to see some of the top bands of the day there. We used to go to high school dances in Oakland to see Santana, Tower Of Power, and Creedence Clearwater Revival before they hit it big. Those were some great times, I think. Well, there are a few blank spots, but I won’t go into that here.” “Early on, I was absolutely knocked out by many of the British bands, particularly Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Animals, The Zombies, The Hollies, and of course, the Beatles

Hilary Gardner

Born:

Vocalist Hilary Gardner, described by The New Yorker as “a singer with a beguilingly subtle wit,” grew up a New Yorker at heart in the jazz hinterland of Wasilla, Alaska. Following stints in Italy and Seattle, WA, she moved to New York City in 2003. Hilary has released four recordings as a leader, receiving critical acclaim from the jazz world’s major publications; DownBeat Magazine declared her “an artist to watch” and named her a Rising Star Female Vocalist four years in a row.

With her newest recording, On the Trail with The Lonesome Pines, Gardner returns to her rustic roots, delving into repertoire from the “singing cowboy” era of the 1930s-40s, songs described by The Times as “Manhattan-meets-moonshine gems.” Featuring Justin Poindexter (guitars, vocals), Noah Garabedian (bass), Aaron Thurston (drums), and Sasha Papernik (accordion), the album evokes the expansiveness and romantic allure of the American West–replete with purple hills, silver stars, and the freedom to roam, unhurried and unworried, under endless western skies. The Wall Street Journal deemed the album “something new and wondrous.”
