Ashley St Pierre

Ashley fell in love with jazz in elementary school when she first heard a recording of Etta James singing "At Last". She began listening to as much of it as she could, learning most of her technique and repertoire from recordings. She enjoyed memorizing Ella Fitzgerald's scat solos and trying to imitate the great tone quality she was hearing in various singers. After high school she followed her heart to Hamilton where she studied jazz voice and composition on a 2 year full scholarship at Mohawk College. She graduated from the 3 year program with honours. Some of her teachers included Mike Malone, Dave McMurdo, Nick Deutch, Jason Logue and Chris Hunt

I am singer/songwriter who lives in Accra, Ghana. My project is FUNKMATA, which is therapeutic funk with a cosmopolitan flavour to it. I have played with bands in Europe since 1979 and have written a book called Pop Poetry available on www.xlibris.com/popoetry. I am married with three children.

Cathy DeWitt

Born: October 4

Cathy DeWitt was destined to be a musician, and playing jazz is in her blood. Before she was born her father Bruce led his own band in New Orleans, regularly opening for Louis Armstrong at Pete Fountain's place. At a very early age music filled her house, from her father's Dixieland trumpet and stride piano to the Rachmaninoff and Chopin pieces her brother Peter, a prodigy pianist, rehearsed every day on the grand piano in the living room. As the family gathered to watch the television variety shows of the 60s, she heard all the famous singers interpreting the great songbook of jazz and show tunes, and she never forgot the lyrics to many of those songs. After honing her harmonic skills as a member of the University of Florida Choir and Willis Bodine's Chamber Singers, Cathy met and began performing with jazz guitarist Charlie Bush

Fran Clark

Singer-songwriter, Fran Clark, grew up in a music loving family and from an early age was exposed to diverse styles; from Aretha to Jimi Hendrix and from Ray Charles to Stevie Wonder. Diversity being the order of the day, a teenage Fran experimented both vocally and as a songwriter whilst performing with soul, rock, pop and blues musicians. It was her father’s love for Nat King Cole that led her to explore singers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan and further, the compositions of Gershwin, Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart. As for contemporary heroes, she will name Stevie Wonder and Anita Baker as her favourite singer-songwriters, with Dianne Reeves recognized as her all-time heroine as a vocalist. Her professional singing career has been spent performing live on stage both at home and abroad

My name is Marsonette. I am a singer and songwriter who reside here in old, boring Memphis, TN. I can call it that because I have been here most of my life. All of my immediate family lives here. I have three beautiful children, two boys and a daughter. My daughter is the oldest of the three. She made it through high school without any major problems and I have God to thank for that! My two boys are in high school. One is a senior in school and the other is in the 10th grade. So far so good! We have had our fair share of problems! Heather Wensley

Born: 12, 1980

Heather is an experience jazz singer and is very established in the South West of the UK, performing regularly with her jazz band. Heather studied her B.A Hons. Degree in Music at Salford University and is applying to attend the Guildhall Post Graduate Jazz Course this year. Heather has a very large repertoire of jazz standards, swing numbers and latin bossa novas which she sings both in English and in the native Brazilian language of Portuguese. Heather performs as a duo with guitarists Andy Barrett, Ben Modley and Alex Johnson and with pianist Stuart Phippen. She is available to sing at private and corporate events from a duo to quintet and often uses Edward Leaker (graduate from the Royal Academy) on Saxophones

Paula Cole

Paula Cole's fourth album, Courage, is about starting over. A more collaborative effort than any of her previous discs, the elegant Courage finds Cole working with a host of writers and players, and balances piano-based pop with her first true musical love: jazz. The album's title, she says, encapsulates just what she needed to pull this record off, as the disc arrives at the end of a soul-searching, and at times soul-crushing period during which she contemplated ending her music career. After having studied piano and percussions at a parisian conservatory, Violette started singing at the age of fifteen. Armed with a solid vocal technique gained by the study of the classical repertoire, she soon felt a need for a greater freedom of expression. One year later, she fell under the spell of the Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong duo recordings, which awakened her taste for Jazz. A chance encounter with pianist and artistic director Laurence Apithy would then mark a crucial turning point in Violette’s career, when she first started training as a professional artist.
