Lisa Engelken

LITTLE WARRIOR, Lisa Engelken's highly-anticipated new album is scheduled for release on October 1, 2013! Lisa has written, arranged & produced all 11 arresting tracks on Little Warrior, that will take you on a journey to the heavens above and back into the depths below, painting an aural chiaroscuro of the soul. Engelken’s sonic palate colors cacophonous and symphonic, then suddenly strips down naked. Consonance and dissonance interweave, swirl and wrestle for position as her voice alternately cuts raw, soars powerful, or simply floats pristine. With an uncanny emotional depth and technical fluency, Lisa draws upon the brutality and beauty of the human experience, to explore and embrace her angels and demons

Napua Davoy

Born:

Having used theatre and opera to grow her creative wings, vocalist, pianist, composer & lyricist Napua Davoy dissolves boundaries and unites essences in this groundbreaking recording. Her warmth and emotional gravity burn soothingly while dismantling us with her white hot mezzo contralto. Her pianistic and arranging skills only heighten the realization of music whether hers or not. But it is her ability to write moving and memorable melodies which carve heroically through complex harmonies into songs that bristle with depth and freshness that may be her most precious gift. In addition to brand new spins on well known classics by Gershwin, Joni Mitchell, Johnny Mercer, and Gian Carlo Menotti, Napua Davoy’s new album “All I Want” contains songs from her two musicals Stella Rising and Miami. Since her amazing vocals premiered on her 1990 Columbia album she has expanded her abilities to include writing and composing. Miami’s “For the Love of Money” exposes the basic human frailty that trades mankind’s compassion for greed in an infectious groove, and Stella Rising’s “Darling Don’t Leave Me” uses the white-hot power of Napua’s classically trained mezzo-contralto voice to sear the emotion of loss

Liz Cole

You know that scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when Terry Jones’ weird, pale prince character tells his overbearing father he doesn’t want land or a wife–he’d rather just… he’d rather just… sing?

That scene really captures my musical journey.

I grew up in a musical household in California. My parents introduced me to everything from Bartok to Blue Mitchell, and one of my favorite toys was a box of rhythm instruments my dad kept in the hall closet. It’s no wonder I picked up the trumpet at the age of nine and played that thing right up until my first lease agreement specifically said “no horns.”

Dena Taylor

Born:

Based in Austin, TX, Dena Taylor is a jazz vocalist who harkens back to the days of smoke-filled clubs and smoky-voiced chanteuses. Her sound is solid; without a lot of vocal gymnastics in the Jazz Standards she covers. She inhabits the songs and makes them her own – feeling happiness, anger, joy, sorrow, love and hate. She draws listeners in and allows them to relate to these songs all over again. Dena was named “Best Female Jazz Artist of the Year” by Indie Music Channel in 2014. Her album “The Nearness of You” showcases her vocal talents and reminds us that even though she is a “seasoned” artist singing Standards, these songs don’t lose their ability to move and touch the audience just because they may have fallen out of vogue.

James Dewitt

Born:

James Dewitt has recently released his self-produced record "An Introduction" and it is one of the many developments that capture the motivation he has. As a jazz singer, taking flight from the moment he heard Sinatra by the age of 14, he never let go of the idea of singing and experimenting with the possibilities of jazz, swing in particular, and contemporary pop sounds. Coming from a music-driven family (his father was a singer as well), he easily interested himself in the sound of swing and the feel of crooning. However, his music cannot simply be captured by the idea of a crooner singing some songs
