Claire Dickson

Born:

Claire Dickson is a vocalist, composer, and producer from Medford, Massachusetts, currently based in Brooklyn. She expresses with words and sounds, which she improvises and assembles into stories. Much of her work is self contained: using field recordings, synthesizers, and samples she builds instruments and sound worlds that investigate dream states and sensation. Her songs and compositions span this multi-instrumental realm, as well as explorations in solo voice and electronics, text scores, and live self-accompaniment.  Claire released her debut solo album, Starland, in January 2022.

Thisbe Vos

Thisbe Vos is a Dutch jazz singer and songwriter living in Los Angeles. With songs that sound like the traditional classics from the '40s and '50s, she is one of the bright new voices that is contributing to the revival of romanticism in jazz in the 21st century. Her fans say that they love her unique, clear voice that reminds them of Doris Day and Peggy Lee. Critics hail her songwriting as “the real thing,” likening her work to that of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin.

Thisbe grew up in a small town close to Amsterdam. At the age of 17 she joined the UK's No 1 swing band "The Jive Aces" as their first female singer and toured with them for three years, visiting 80 cities in Europe and the United States before the age of 21.

A NancysingsBilllie

Hi, I my name is Nancy Ridley-Hughes. I first heard Billie Holiday's music from the movie "Lady Sings the Blues" starring Diana Ross. A friend gave me a Billie Holidy record in '82 and after that I purchased everything I could find. I felt a deep compassion for her feeling, sound, voice and soul. I listened and began to understand. Most of the standards she sang, I learned from listening to her sing them. I began singing her songs along 75th Street in Chicago, the then South Side Jazz Strip. I've had the fortune to perform with such great Masters as Von Freeman, Jodie Christian, Eddie Johnson, John Young, Eddie DeHass, George Hughes, Brad Goode and other Chicago Musicians

Sandi Shoemake

Born:

Sandi Shoemake was born Sandra Marie Bumgarner on October 9, 1938. Her birthplace was Rochester, Minnesota but since her parents moved to Los Angles two years later, she has always considered herself a California native. Her father was a semiprofessional drummer-vocalist with Dixieland bands and from her earliest recollections she remembers wanting to sing. Though she went through the usual regime belonging to all the school choirs, her most helpful early training came from singing with her father's bands on their many dance engagements. In 1956 she enrolled in Los Angeles City College's music department, at that time considered one of the finest in the country for professional music training
