The Next Iteration of Interactive Music Videos

October 27, 2010

Andy Grammer has an interactive music video out. Users engage with the content and make decisions in real-time. Once selected, the course of the story switches. The scene changes are seamless. Even I watched it twice to see the different ways that it ended. While the music itself is less than compelling, the format gives a ...

October 27, 2010

The number of online options available to help create, distribute, market and sell music can be overwhelming.  Navigating through the maze is a large part of why Hypebot was created. October 24, 2010

Regina Carter's latest project Reverse Thread represents something of a departure for the Detroit-born jazz violinist. With the unusual front line instrumentation of Carter's violin; an accordion, played by either Gary Versace or Will Holshouser; and a kora, a 21-string West African harp/lute played by Yacouba Sissoko; Reverse Thread ...

Weekend Extra: McChesney Heard and Seen

October 23, 2010

My biography of Paul Desmond includes Desmond solos that Bill Mays, Bud Shank, Brent Jensen, Gary Foster and Paul Cohen transcribed for the book. They analyze or comment on the solos and John Handy analyzes Cohen's transcription of “Take Five." In the text I suggest that playing the recordings and following along with Desmond would help ...
