Le Boeuf Brothers

Born: August 3, 1986

Remy and Pascal Le Boeuf (saxophone and piano) are part of a growing New York jazz scene characterized by odd time signatures, alternative rock, and the influences of artists such as Radiohead, Brian Blade and Kurt Rosenwinkel. What makes the 23-year-old Le Boeuf Brothers sparkle among other young jazz musicians is their uncanny ability to communicate with each other using their own secret musical language. This isn't surprising when you discover that Pascal and Remy Le Boeuf are identical twins. In their short musical career, the Le Boeuf Brothers (pronounced “le buff”) have garnered an impressive tally of national and international awards and accomplishments, the most notable being the ASCAP/IAJE Commission honoring Quincy Jones, which premiered at the 2004 IAJE conference and featured tenor saxophonist Chris Potter. The Le Boeuf Brothers have also received awards from Downbeat Magazine, the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and dominated the 2006 Independent Music Awards, winning Best Jazz Album and Best Jazz Song for their prior release “Migration”

The Air Department

The music of THE AIR DEPARTMENT represents an inspired and artful collaboration between composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer ROGER EBACHER and master drummer DENNY PELLETIER.

ROGER EBACHER is a recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, performer, composer, and producer, with over 40 years of professional stage and studio experience. Appearing on his own highly reviewed CD's as a consummate flutist (Flutation Device, Backyard Carneval), with numerous guest CD appearances on a variety of instruments, Roger's compositional skills and music cover Jazz, Fusion, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Reggae, Latin Jazz, Flamenco, African, and other world music. Roger has twice been the featured guest artist on Boston's premier jazz radio program, Eric in the Evening (WGBH-FM, 89.7), and his music has been on the airwaves all over North America, Europe, and as far east as India, Thailand, and Russia. Roger's newest musical venture, THE AIR DEPARTMENT, represents further explorations into World Music, combining the musics of the Middle East, India, Brazil, Cuba and beyond with Ambient, Electronica, Downtempo and more into a new sonic stew of ethnic fusion made for adventurous listeners in today's evolving musical universe.

Hananeel

Hananeel, a fusion jazz band with a new innovative sound created from the influences of jazz, fusion, rock, funk and gospel. The sound resonates with excitement, inspiration, and creativity from six of the most progressive minds in music today. Based out of Indianapolis, Indiana, band members, Peppy Smith on synths, Keith A. Phelps on synths and piano, Leland Crenshaw on guitar, Kenny Phelps on drums, Hamilton Hardin on guitar and sax, and Keith Phelps on bass have an extraordinary cohesiveness combining over 20 years of experience that constructs the foundation on which Hananeel’s musical structure resides

Nós Novo

Born: January 1, 1980

Nós Novo is a innovative quartet of jazz musicians who are exploring Celtic music with Afro-Brazilian grooves and open-ended improvisation. Led by vibist/percussionist James Shipp, the group seeks to open up the music of Ireland the same way Dizzy Gillespie did with Cuban music, and John Zorn did with the music of the Jewish diaspora. The members of the band are: James Shipp: vibes, percussion, shruti boxes, compositions, arrangements Jo Lawry: vocals, mandolin, fiddle, melodica Gilad Hekselman: guitar Rogerio Boccato: percussion The band has also featured the talents of: Keith Ganz: played guitar on "Strange Sweethearts..." and made lasting contributions to the sound of the band Kate McGarry: sang on "As I Roved Out" and "Fold" Becca Stevens: frequent special guest on vocals and charango/ukulele

Jazz underGround is a network of NYC's greatest jazz musicians with NYC churches that want to sponsor free or donation only concerts for the public. Musicians include John Pattitucci, Mark Turner, Greg Tardy, Gretchen Parlato, Johnathan Blake, Ben Street, Jaleel Shaw, Mike Moreno, Aaron Parks, Aaron Goldberg, Nasheet Watts, Jon Gordon, Alan Ferber Nonet w/strings, George Garzone, and countless other fantastic musicians. Churches include The Church for All Nations (417 West 57th-Hell's Kitchen), New Beginnings (199 North 7th-Williamsburg), the Neighborhood Church (269 Bleecker-the Village), Messiah's Covenant Community Church (2702 Quentin Rd-Brooklyn)

James Shipp

Born: January 1, 1980

Born in Columbia, Maryland, James Shipp moved to New York to study music, and has resided there ever since. James’ career is full of musics that inhabit multiple worlds. His earliest work of note as a sideman was with Tito Puente veteran trumpeter Ray Vega, with whom he played vibes in Caribbean jazz quartets and quintets from 2002-2005. In 2006 he recorded with Vega and operatic soprano Sharon Spinetti, playing music by Debussy, Lara, and Villa- Lobos arranged by James for jazz quartet. In 2005 James began his musical relationship with Jo Lawry, the vocalist in Sting's touring group, Fred Hersch's 'Pocket Orchestra,' and James' own Nós Novo

Saturn Never Sleeps is a special night of sonic innovation, curated by producer/dj King Britt and multimedia artist, Rucyl. Started in July 2009 in Philadelphia as part of an exhibit and dedication to the music of Sun RA, Saturn Never Sleeps has gone on to be a monthly boundary pushing 'creative process' in Philadelphia. We are now proud to present our concept here in NYC at The Knitting Factory. Rucyl explains, "The term Saturn Never Sleeps came from Sun Ra's love for interstellar universal concepts, and his special connection to the planet Saturn. The monthly event will feature ground-breaking artists, both below and above the radar, as we invite them to perform in an improvised setting which may be different from their usual performance setups as djs, visualists, singers or musicians

The New Standards

What are The New Standards about? They are about Music, about Town, about Play, about soul, about fun... Started in 2005 as an off-shoot project between Minneapolis based musicians and friends Chan Poling (piano), Steve Roehm (vibes) and John Munson (bass), TNS has grown into a globe-spanning adventure, filling theaters and clubs around the world, spawning several CDs, videos, cartoons, dance/theater projects, and ancillary gewgaws that have charmed and delighted an ever-multiplying legion of faithful fans. The three core members of The New Standards all come from illustrious Twin Cities bands

ADENIJI the Heavywind (Multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger/songwriter). ____ With a fine blend of western contemporary beats and ethnic sounds from Africa, his music continues to evolve with time. Press; "Adeniji is on this week's favorites. The results are a series of fresh contemporary sounds, both instrumentals and vocals that have an urban feel. The funky mid-tempo groove of "Whether U Like" contrasts with the free flowing "Children at Play" mixing up the beats to change pace.
