Bob Lark

Born: December 19, 1958

Bob Lark is a trumpet and flugelhorn player whose performances are especially notable for his lyrical style and fine tone. His harmonically oriented improvisations shift between aggressive and cool playng. In speaking of Lark, jazz icon Clark Terry says, "He's a very good trumpet player, a very good musician. He's paid his dues. Recently released on the Jazzed Media label is the CD recording Reunion, by Bob Lark and his Alumni Big Band. The Bob Lark/Phil Woods Quintet, which includes prominent jazz artists Jim McNeely, Steve Gilmore and Bill Goodwin, has released three CD's on the Jazzed Media label. Bob's playing and writing are also featured on the compact disc recordings Until You (2003) and First Steps (1997) on the Hallway Records label. Bob Lark serves as the Chair of Jazz Studies at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, where he directs the university Jazz Ensemble, teaches jazz trumpet and courses in jazz pedagogy and jazz style

Nick Roseboro

Born: July 29, 1982

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Nick Roseboro was exposed to jazz by his friends at the age of 13. Recognizing his talent, his middle school teacher coerced Nick into playing in the jazz band, which led to musical travels in Europe with the school jazz band. Completely committed by the end of high school, Nick moved to New York City to attend New School University where he studied with Reggie Workman, Billy Harper, Charles Toliver, Junior Mance, Eddie Henderson and Rachel Z and graduated in 2005. He appears as a guest artist with Rachel Z and has performed with Joe Chambers, Rene Marie, Kenny Barron, and Ralph Peterson

Kevin Hackler

Born: April 27, 1981

BIO ...... Twenty seven year old trumpeter Kevin Hackler began playing music in his native Virgina at eight years old, starting on guitar and drums. He first picked up the trumpet to join the school band in fifth grade. After relocating to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during his seventh grade year Hackler began to take an interest in jazz, joining the newly formed school jazz band. Landing his first gig with the House of Blues Big Band in Myrtle Beach at age fifteen Hackler was motivated to pursue music as a career. Kevin Hackler graduated in 2003 with a B.A. in Music Performance from the College of Charleston, studying under such great influences as drummer Quentin Baxter, trumpeters Lyle van Wie and Charlton Singleton, composers David Maves and Trevor Weston, and pianist Tommy Gill

Avishai Cohen - Trumpet

Born: 1978

A year after his impressionistic, award winning and critically-lauded ECM debut Into The Silence, Avishai Cohen’s Cross My Palm With Silver (May 5th, 2017) introduces a program of new pieces which put the focus on the ensemble, on teamwork, with an exceptional quartet featuring Yonathan Avishai (piano), Barak Mori (bass) and Nasheet Waits (drums). The adroit interplay among the musicians allows Avishai Cohen to soar, making it clear why the pure-toned trumpeter is one of the most talked-about jazz musicians on the contemporary scene.

In 2016 alone, Cohen was named “Best Foreign Artist” by Jazz Magazine France, while Into the Silence was awarded “Best Album of the Year” by TSF Jazz and Academie du Jazz, and in the top 20 albums of the year by JazzTimes. For four years running, Cohen has been voted a Rising Star-Trumpet in the Down Beat Critics Poll. Along with leading his quartet, the trumpeter has led Triveni (a trio with Omer Avital and Nasheet Waits) for over a decade, was a member of the prestigious SFJAZZ Collective for six years, and has been a featured soloist in a number of special ensembles – most recently in “Jazz 100” alongside Danilo Perez, Lizz Wright, Chris Potter and Wycliffe Gordon. He also records and tours the world with The 3 Cohens Sextet, the hit family band with his sister, clarinetist-saxophonist Anat, and brother, saxophonist Yuval. James Zollar

Born: July 24, 1959

James Delano Zollar began his musical career at age 9 playing bugle in his hometown, Kansas City Missouri. At 12, he graduated to the trumpet where he began to discover his musical voice and focus. After high school he continued to study at San Diego City College and then the University of California at San Diego. At the same time he honed his chops with various funk and jazz bands and lead his own straight-ahead quintet. In 1972, Zollar moved to San Francisco and he studied with the great jazz trumpet player Woody Shaw to study jazz improvisation. In, 1984, he moved to New York City and played with the Cecil McBee Quintet for five years and then recorded with Tom Harrell, with Weldon Erving and Sam Rivers

Thomas Heflin

Born: July 21, 1977

Tennessee-born jazz trumpeter Thomas Heflin has been hailed as "a fluent trumpeter with a bright tone and a forward-looking style" by jazz writer Scott Yanow. In 2005, he placed second in the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition in Seattle, WA and has since been featured or mentioned in Italy's Jazz Magazine, The Pittsburgh Tribune Review and The International Trumpet Guild Journal among others. A recording artist for Blue Canoe Records, Heflin has released three albums on the label. His 2007 debut album "Symmetry" was dedicated to the memory of pianist James Williams, who is featured on half of the recording

Abram Wilson

Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1975, Abram Wilson was raised along with his four brothers and one sister in New Orleans, Louisiana. The eldest of six children, the entire family including mother, Doris Wilson, and father, Willie C Wilson Jr, had some experience in music. Abram's first inspiration and introduction to music was at the age of five when listening to his father play the guitar and to recordings which his father would play. Soon after being bought a snare drum for Christmas, Abram went on to play drums. At nine, Abram received his first trumpet and after being taught his first note by his mother, he immediately began learning songs from the radio and developing his own method of ear training. Starting with his first instructor, Lester Wright, Abram quickly became the most advanced in the class, surpassing many of the older students

Gerard Kleijn

Since 1995, Dutch jazz trumpeter and composer Gerard Kleijn has led a very wide variety of his own groups and has made 12 CD’s as a (co)bandleader, all very well received by the international press and audiences. He played at festivals and venues throughout Europe, Syria, Mexico, Russia and the United States. He co-leads his latest band Wild Man Conspiracy with the Argentine guitarist Guillermo Celano and Dutch drummer Joost Kesselaar (Knots 2014 and Short Stories 2016). The CD’s where released on the New York label Red Piano Records. In 2016 and 2018 tenorsaxophoneplayer Chris Cheek (New York)joined Wild Man Conspiracy for concerts in Europe

Arve Henriksen

Born: March 22, 1968

Born in 1968, Arve Henriksen studied at the Trondheim Conservatory from 1987-1991, and has worked as a freelance musician since 1989.

He has worked with many musicians familiar to ECM listeners, including Jon Balke (with whose Magnetic North Orchestra he has played extensively), Anders Jormin, Edward Vesala, Jon Christensen, Marilyn Mazur, Audun Kleive, Nils Petter Molvær, Misha Alperin, Arkady Shilkloper, Arild Andersen, Stian Carstensen, Dhafer Youssef, Hope Sanduval, the Cikada String Quartet, The Source and more. He has played in a wide spectre of contexts, ranging from working with koto player Satsuki Odamura, to the rock band Motorpsycho via numerous free improvising groups with Ernst Reisiger, Sten Sandell, Peter Friis-Nilsen, Terje Isungset, Marc Ducret ,Karl Seglem et cetera
