A native of Cleveland, OH and a 9-time DownBeat Award-Winning vocal jazz educator, pianist, arranger and performer, Tim Brent is just about to complete his first semester as the new director of vocal jazz studies at The University of North Texas. Before accepting the position at UNT, Tim completed his doctorate (DMA) at the prestigious University of Miami (May 2008) and was teaching at both UM and Miami-Dade College (2008-09). Previously he was the Assistant Professor of Jazz Vocal Studies at The University of the Arts (Philadelphia, PA) and was the director of the vocal jazz program at Northern Illinois University for three years (1997-2000). Tim received his bachelors degree in choral music education from Western Michigan University where he was a member of the internationally renowned vocal jazz ensemble Gold Company under the direction of Dr
