Ike Quebec at 100, D-Stringz & A Walk On The Outside

Read "Ike Quebec at 100, D-Stringz & A Walk On The Outside" reviewed by Marc Cohn

A show from the 2018 archive with a salute to Ike Quebec, a wickedly good session with Stanley Clarke, Bireli Lagrene and Jean-Luc Ponty that you might have missed, as well as coloring outside the lines with Mary Halvorson, Henry Threadgill and Charles Mingus with Roland Kirk. Oh, and our usual dose of grease & funk. ...

While The Vampires' last venture The Vampires meet Lionel Loueke (earshift music, 2017) saw the Australian quartet collaborating with Beninese guitar virtuoso Lionel Loueke in a run of colorfully diverse tunes and extensive structures, their newest one finds them dialing things back to a simpler nature, yet equally expressive soundscapes. The decade old Australian five piece The Vampires, fronted by dueting brass players Jeremy Rose and Nick Garbett, sought out the rising Beninese guitar prodigy Lionel Loueke for their ambitious fifth outing The Vampires Meet Lionel Loueke. With the addition of Loueke's virtuoso playing and singular guitar tone to the soothing mix of ethnic-world-influenced music, written ...

As we mature as music listeners, the need to select a piece of music as your summer theme song, go-to party album, or road trip recording fades. Just like the childhood requirement to designate who is your best friend, we don't wear the grooves of records out these days. Let's, for old times sake, choose a ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
