The Sound of Kyushu is a NYC based guitar-bass jazz duo. Since they passed the Music Under New York annual audition in 2006 and obtained the official license to perform as a member of MUNY, they are providing high quality jazz music at many major spots in subway stations in New York City. The leader, Maki Watanabe is a versatile upright bassist who is proficient in various styles from jazz to classical with the academic background as well as the creativity. His bass lines create steady but strong swing rhythms, which supports the ensemble as a combustion engine. He also plays melodies and improvises with bowing as an individual solo instrument.
