The Sicilian Jazz Orchestra in Italy is the first and only permanent jazz orchestra with public participation. Founded by Ignatius Garsia in the early 70s as the Brass Group Big Band, the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra has played an intense and continuous concert activities under the guidance of some of the most prestigious conductors of the world. In 1990 the O.J.S. was the cornerstone of the "International Review of Soul Music" in Palermo and in 1991 he performed in the first European, "Epitaph" by Charles Mingus, under the direction of Gunther Schuller.
