MUSICIAN Born:

Stanton Moore

Over the course of his 20-year career, drummer Stanton Moore has become known as one of the premier funk musicians of his generation. On his latest album, Conversations, he moves in a slightly different direction, returning to his roots while reinventing his trademark sound. The result is a lively and combustible jazz piano trio outing that reveals unexpected new dimensions to Moore's always-engaging virtuosity. Anyone who's ever heard the interplay between the drummer and his band-mates in the Stanton Moore Trio, Galactic, Garage a Trois or Dragon Smoke is no doubt aware of his intense improvisational chops

Will Bernard: Freelance Subversives

Read "Freelance Subversives" reviewed by Doug Collette

A native Californian currently headquartered in Brooklyn, Will Bernard's geographical touchpoints mirror the expanse of solo and collaborative projects to which he's contributed over the course of his career. Just a few of the names appearing in his discography are also indicative of the guitarist's broadly eclectic approach: eccentric singer/composer Tom Waits, drummer extraordinaire Stanton Moore ...

So, we've got our usual group of holiday favorites. But wait! There's more. Stanton Moore: With You In Mind

Read "With You In Mind" reviewed by Mark E. Gallo

Stanton Moore's tribute to Allen Toussaint is chock full of New Orleans sounds and is one of his most exciting albums to date. Moore, a New Orleans native himself, is fully immersed in the groove, and that groove is funky. Allen Toussaint pretty much invented New Orleans funk and Moore is a faithful disciple. This collection ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
