Began playing trombone as a teen, own group soon after; taught by John Coffee of the Boston Symphony; played in school, college, U.S. Army; introduced to traditional jazz by Ed and Jean Kittrell of their Chesapeake Jass Band and Chicago Stompers in the late '50s; member of the Jazz Doctors featuring banjoist Gil Roberts in '60s; founding and still active member of the New Black Eagle Jazz Band 1971, which has played throughout North America, the British Isles, Scandinavia, Western Europe and the Far East; performed our own arrangements with orchestras in this country and abroad; and recorded 55 albums including one nominated for a Grammy.
