Leon De Vose, II

Leon learned congas from his father, Leon, Sr., who was the lead drummer for the Essex County African Dance Society. The traditional African, Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz rhythms and sounds would forever inform his artistry. His mother, Delores, possessed of an incredible range, would help to define the melodic style that would become his sound.

Leon's dream of learning saxophone would be realized when he began taking formal lessons with (now Dr.) Bill Phipps in 1974. His first solo would be to the late Freddie Hubbard's "Little Sunflower."

He would go on to learn from others, perform in some of the most prominent venues in the area

Paul Combs

Born:

Born 1946 in St. Louis MO, Paul Combs moved with his family to Philadelphia, PA in 1953. His earliest musical training included singing in his church choir, where the choir director took the time to teach singing and develop good ensemble sense. Paul also played trombone in the band at his elementary school. Later he attended Central H.S., studying theory and counterpoint there and at the Settlement Music School. His first saxophone studies were with Buddy Savitt. He began playing professionally in 1963, as a saxophonist and singer in a small band that played mostly functions. He also began doubling on flute at this time, and bass a couple of years later. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree, in Composition, from the Philadelphia Musical Academy (now the University of the Arts) in 1968

Hungarian by birth, Zoltan attended the Guildhall School of Music studying clarinet with Robert Earle and later Frank Allen (CBSO) at Warwick University. He is completely self taught on saxophone drawing much inspiration particularly from Johnny Hodges, Cannonball Adderley and Stan Getz . Zoltan spent his early professional playing career in dance bands and in the New Orleans jazz genre playing alongside Dan Pawson and also performing at festivals both here and abroad

Saxophonist and composer Alon Farber is one of the leading jazz musicians in the Israeli jazz scene. His style is very unique and innovative and combines rich harmonies with contrapuntal writing. As a wind player Alon has great sensitivity for writing for horns. Alon claims that he has been influenced by great artists such as Wayne Shorter, Dave Douglas and Ornette Coleman. Alon has collaborated along the years with well-established Jazz artists such as Omri Mor, Amos Hoffman, Avi Lebovich, Omer Klein, Haggai Cohen-Milo, Avishai Cohen (the trumpet player), Eli Degibri, Anat Cohen, Hagai Amir, Tal Ronen, Uzi Finerman, Toru Dodo(Japan), Eyal Ganor and Ofer Ganor

Toronto-based musician Nick Morgan, is a saxophonist, woodwind doubler, ​and educator who is emerging as a strong musical voice in the Canadian and international jazz communities. Peers and critics have praised him for his unique sound, derived from his diverse influences combined with his natural musical intuition. Nick is a busy sideman performing with many original music ensembles, production companies, in addition to his own group: The Nick Morgan Quartet. Nick's formal education began at Toronto's prestigious Humber College, where he graduated from their Jazz Performance program. During his studies, Nick was one of five finalists in Jazz FM91's "Project Jazz" competition, led by Universal Canada and Alma Records in which he was recognized as one of the "young lions" of his generation

As a leader, he has performed in more than 50 countries (Finland, Denmark, Norway, USA, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Korea, China and Japan, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa etc.) He has appeared as a leader/soloist in around 2000 concerts during the last 20 years, most of them outside Finland

An early taste for heavy metal led through Beethoven to the weightier end of modern composition (with oboe playing along the way). Over-exposure to computer music whilst living in California and Paris led to temporary breadwinning as a software engineer but more importantly the skills to develop a range of computer music techniques from real-time digital instruments to self-contained algorithmic composition environments. Michael lives in Edinburgh and is active as a composer and performer playing saxophones, laptop, and MIDI wind controller.

Bill Wimmer has been playing professionally for 35 years in the Midwest and Colorado. He has performed with Jack Lesberg, Norman Hedman, Bobby Watson, Claudio Roditi, Roger Byam, Misha Tsiganov, Tony Monaco and Jimmy Bruno over the years. Having formed a musical partnership with Tony Gulizia many years ago, he and Tony have have a deep respect and love for the music and are dedicated to it. In 2008, Bill and Tony gathered some former and current Omahans, including the phenominal Dave Stryker on Guitar and The Master, Victor Lewis on drums, along with Tony's brother Joey on Percussion and Mark Luebbe on bass for Project Omaha

Nicole Johänntgen

Alto and Soprano – Saxophonist Nicole Johänntgen has played with stars like Daniel Powter (Bad day), Roger Cicero, Eric Harland, Aaron Parks, Nils Landgren, Piet Klocke and is currently on CD-release tour with Scandinavian singer Cæcilie Norby. She has recorded and released 17 albums to date in the jazz genre with influences from classical music, film music and funk. She tours with her bands throughout Europe and is invited internationally as a soloist. After successfully completing her studies in jazz and popular music at the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences and the Masters Class in Stroudsburg, USA, under the direction of Dave Liebman, she is now deepening her knowledge in the field of musicology at the University of Zurich. She is also currently training in beatbox saxophone technique. Nicole Johänntgen leads the music business workshop SOFIA for female musicians and gives workshops online and on site for children and adults with and without prior musical knowledge. She is currently working on two new albums that will be released in 2021 on her label Selmabird Records. Nicole Johänntgen has won seven international awards and lives with her family in Zuerich.
