Richard Howell

Born:

Being an artist offers me opportunities to enrich and enhance the lives of others while satisfying my joy to contribute to others well being other than monetary. The creative process promotes good mental health, a sense of value and self-worth for me. There was always a fascination for me how people reacted to music. Some people dance to music, others listen in silence as a quiet or reflective time, some listen for distraction or escapism, others create organizations, social gatherings or use music to tell stories and express their feelings. Jazz has always been where people come together across a seemingly unbridgeable divide, it’s truth-telling music, my language

Noel Jewkes

I was born in the State of Utah on June 18, 1940 of Mormon Pioneer stock and my family were all musical.. I grew up in a musical environment as my mother & father and a few uncles formed a Swing band to play for church & school social functions as well as a few Elks and Moose clubs and the local Country Club in Price, Utah. We would also cross over into Colorado and New Mexico to play for farmers and Indians.

I joined the band at the age of 12 playing clarinet and saxophone, mainly to save my parents from paying baby-sitter money! The band, known as the Jewkes Orchestra, was a favorite in a country that was basically known for cowboy and country western music. People liked to dance to us because we had a good beat.

Elliott Levin

If one was to believe descriptive snippets, the thing to do when Elliott Levin approaches is find a place to hide. In a worst case scenario, try to climb a tree — at least, that is the advice hikers would receive about the oncoming approach of something "ferocious...frenzied...bearlike." However, the comparison with bears is based on the size and appearance of the Philadelphia performer, while the other adjectives are filling one of their more esoteric purposes in the English language, attempting to describe just what it is free jazz performers do when they blow into their horns. Whatever it is, Levin does a lot of it, on tenor saxophone and flute
