Ed Palermo

Ed Palermo is not a “business as usual” musician. After all, when most people think of “big bands” they think of Duke and Dorsey. But go to see Ed Palermo’s Big Band and you might hear Zappa, Hendrix, the blues of Paul Butterfield & Mike Bloomfield or one of Ed’s own compositions, loaded with lush turns and unexpected twists.

Gil Evans wonderfully articulated Palermo’s unusual approach to traditional instrumentation:

Zac Zinger

Born: January 8, 1989

A multi-talented performer, Zac plays saxophones, flute, clarinet, shakuhachi, EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument), and a host of ethnic flutes. In 2019 he released his debut album, Fulfillment, which includes twelve original tracks for jazz quartet combining jazz fusion and Japanese traditional music. He has recorded woodwinds for the soundtracks of Final Fantasy XV: Assassin's Festival, Just Cause 4, Street Fighter V, RWBY, Lazer Team, Moonlight Blade OL, and many more. He has also had the pleasure of performing in twelve countries with the likes of Anat Cohen, Kirill Gerstein, Mario Frangoulis, Nobuo Uematsu, and Wataru Hokoyama

Pureum Jin

Born: January 25, 1987

Pureum Jin is a South Korea-born, NYC-based award-winning saxophonist, arranger, and composer, establishing herself as one of the leading figures in the jazz world with her recently released album ‘The Real Blue’ through Cellar Live in June 2019. The title of the album ‘The Real Blue’ is a direct translation of her Korean name in English, as the tunes reflect the journey of her life and career after coming to the US – struggling as a woman, immigrant, and a mother, but moving forward with the love and support of family and friends. Scott Gilman

Scott Gilman first picked up the saxophone at age 10, inspired by his Dad’s late night jam sessions with other local jazz musicians. The rock scene in Massachusetts also influenced him and it wasn’t long before he picked up a guitar as well. His formative years were equally split between studying and playing the jazz of Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, et al and forming his own rock bands to perform locally. He started playing professionally at age 15. After winning numerous awards in school as a saxophonist he won a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Therehe studied under jazz greats Herb Pomeroy, John LaPorta, Joe Viola, and Andy McGhee

Iman Spaargaren

Iman is a multi-reed player, arranger and composer. He has a distinctive way of playing and a very personal tone on his horn. Over the past years Iman has been busy with a wide variety of music groups such as Undercurrent Trio, StarkLinnemann Quartet, Voice of Monk, Iman Spaargaren Quartet & Septet, Captain Hook, European Union Quartet and Thelonious4. He is actively involved in the theatre piece My Father Held A Gun and the dance & music performance We Are The Everlasting Guests. In 2019 Iman released High Tide Low Tide on Flea Boy Records with Undercurrent Trio featuring Guillermo Celano and Marcos Baggiani

Jorge Retamoza

Born: August 25, 1960

Jorge Retamoza is one of the saxophonists from Argentine who has more deeply developed the inclusion of his instrument in tango language. This work can be heard on record albums with his group and more than a dozen collaborations with other artists. The Argentine press has referred to his music: "tango and jazz elements, creating an unprecedented mixture sound and, at times, overwhelming." For almost twenty years Retamoza has built with his original compositions a musical body based on the tango, the jazz gestures and academic procedures that put his writing and playing in an originality area, finding new ways to understand the tradition and future of Buenos Aires music

Filippo Bianchini

Born: September 16, 1982

Filippo Bianchini was born in Orvieto, Italy, but he lives from 0 to 8 years in Rome. Thanks to the father's collection of LP and a family friend, Alberto Casasoli, began studying music at 7 years hold. At 10,he started playing the tenor saxophone. Shortly after, he began his first lessons of sax with Mauro Verrone, who introduced him to the great music of Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Massimo Urbani and many others.

At 18 years hold, he starts the class of Saxophone with Mario Raja at the Conservatory F.Morlacchi of Perugia, where he graduated in 2007, obtaining the highest marks (10/10). In September 2007 he moved to Netherlands in the city of The Hague to gets a specialization at the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag. Here, he has the opportunity to study with one of the greatest european musicians: the american saxophonist and clarinetist John Ruocco.
