Brent Jensen

Born: February 12, 1960

Now making his home in Seattle, saxophonist Brent Jensen was the Director of Jazz Studies at the College of Southern Idaho for many years. As the artistic director for the CSI Jazz Summit and the Jazz Saturdays workshop series, Jensen was a major force in cultivating new performers and bringing world-class jazz events to Idaho, creating a climate of rich cultural pursuit that remains since his departure.

Raised in Boise, Brent Jensen studied in New York City with jazz legend Lee Konitz on a grant in 1987 from the Idaho Commission on the Arts. He was a featured winner of the Woodwinds on Fire international talent search conducted in 1996 by Jazziz magazine and has performed with a variety of jazz artists including Gene Harris, Bobby Shew, Gary Foster, John Clayton, Joe LaBarbera, Wycliffe Gordon, Warren Vache, John Stowell, Bill Watrous, Jamie Findlay, Dave Peck, Dianne Schuur, Kristin Korb, Marc Seales, Doug Miller, John Bishop, Bill Anschell, Don Sickler and many others. Brent's recordings have received significant national radio airplay and have been featured in all the major jazz periodicals.

Allana Southerland

Born: May 29, 1982

Allana Southerland is a native of Jacksonville, Florida and is gifted in the smooth sound of the saxophone. Her style of jazz and new-soul vibe, with her group, Fusion, is synonymous with that of Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright and Najee. Allana has performed all over the country and shared the stage with such legends as the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars and Dave Brubeck. This one-of-a-kind artist also attends the University of North Florida as the only female saxophonist in the Jazz Studies program, studies Jazz Theory and Jazz Arranging, and is on the Dean's List, a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and holds an office in Sigma Alpha Iota, a music sorority. Alex Jackson

Born: November 20, 1978

Studied at the Guilhall School of Music and Drama, London England and at Middlesex University in London. Graduated with BA(Hons)Music(JAZZ). Toured on the Smash Hits Pop Tour, 1997. Been working on cruise ships to pay bills and just moved to Long Beach.

Al Maniscalco

Born: September 30, 1970

Al Maniscalco has been making strong contributions to the East coast jazz scene since 1993. Born in Staten Island, New York and raised in Hollywood, Florida, Al migrated north to Maryland after receiving his Bachelor of Music degree in 1992 from the University of North Florida. In 1994 he completed studies to earn a Master of Music degree from Towson State University. Now hailed as one of the regions top saxophonists, Al has achieved a substantial resume, including performance with Branford Marsalis, Tony Bennett, Bunky Green, Valery Ponomarev, George Colligan, Curtis Lundy, Billy Hart, John Hicks, Ronnie Mathews, Larry Willis, Eddie Henderson, Marcus Printup and Chuck Mangione

Itay Goldberg

Born: December 14, 1993

Itay Goldberg born in Israel in 1993. Itay fell in love with music in his early childhood learning piano and drums. In the age of 15, Itay received a special scholarship from the mayor of Rishon Lezion, Israel to study the saxophone, which he found his voice and passion in. Itay quickly became involved in the Rishon Lezion Jazz orchestra becoming the youngest member ever to play at the orchestra. In 2017 upon finishing his studies at the Israeli Conservatory, Itay moved to New York, Itay moved to NYC to pursuit his BFA in Jazz Performance at The New School. Itay had the opportunity to share the stage jazz legends such as: Ari Hoenig, Reggie Workman, Joel Frham, Aaron Goldberg to name a few.

Petr Cancura

Born: April 23, 1977

Born in Eastern Europe, brought up in the wilderness of the Great White North, and later thrust into the urban Jungle of New York City, it is no surprise that Petr Cancura’s musical pallet is as wide as it is. A saxophonist with a vast knowledge of Jazz, Balkan, African and American folk traditions, Petr performs on banjo and mandolin as well as on the medium format black & white camera… all of which influences each other into a Roots Song & Improvising music machine with a visual sensibility. Petr, now based in Ottawa, Canada, is the Program Director of the Ottawa Jazz Festival, two-time Artist-In- Residence of Carleton University, and was the Musical Director of the National Arts Center’s Crossroads Series, reimagining the songs of current Canadian Songwriters for an all-star jazz cast

Mike Casey

Born: June 10, 1993

Saxophonist, songwriter, and teaching artist Mike Casey has been a fixture on the Hartford jazz scene and beyond since 2011, when he began attending the acclaimed Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the University of Harford’s Hartt School. In 2015, Mike was one of 24 young jazz composers worldwide chosen by Jason Moran to participate in the prestigious “Betty Carter Jazz Ahead” Program at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC where he studied with an all-star faculty including Eric Harland, JD Allen, Eric Revis, Cyrus Chestnut, and Jason Moran.

After a sold out NYC debut at the Minton’s in Harlem in September 2016, Mike went on to accomplish an incredible feat: the crowdfunding campaign for his debut album "The Sound of Surprise: Live at The Side Door" (due for a February 2017 release) reached 111% funded in under 30 days. His resume includes appearances with Charles Tolliver, DJ Logic, Brandee Younger, Zaccai Curtis, Tarus Mateen and Marc Cary, whose project “The Harlem Sessions” features Mike as an original member.

Eddie Jak Neumann

Born: January 1, 1974

Eddie Neumann was born in communist Romania at a time when jazz was almost banned. He first came into contact with jazz when Dave Brubeck came to Moscow in 1987. 11 years later, he recorded the first live jazz CD ever to be published in Romania (Changes, 1998) along with the Jazz Unit band. The resulting sexted received the Jazz Album of the Year award from the Romanian Union of Composers in 2000 for their album From Now On. Eddie is the mastermind behind the revered Romanian nu-jazz band Blazzaj, for which he wrote music and lyrics. After a short stint in West London, where he played jazz, klezmer and world music with several bands and produced his own electronic music called Electric Vulcans, he relocated to Romania, where he continues touring and recording with various ensembles crossing the jazz and ethnic music realms.

Russ Nolan

Consistently voted onto DownBeat magazine’s Rising Star Annual Critics Poll and featured in the 2016 September Indie Life section, Russ Nolan’s music is often described as High-Energy Modern Jazz that both satisfies the intellect of its musical peers and speaks to everyone on a soulful level. Called a ‘renaissance man’ by those close to him, he has taken his experiences in sports, martial arts, business, after-school program volunteering, music education, and other activities to relate to a wider audience. His 2016 release of Sanctuary from the Ordinary – Live at Firehouse 12 was voted onto DownBeat’s Best of 2016
